About lulu...

Hi, there I'm Lucy! I'm currently completing my third year at Falmouth university studying a BA(Hons) Textile Design degree.

It was originally my passion to become a mixed media fine artist but while at Brockenhurst College on my foundation course I studied all aspects of art and design and found that textiles was a hidden passion. You can imagine how excited I was when I found out you could specialise in mixed media at Falmouth! Yay!

I love the idea that thread can be used to build up and create detail in the same way brush strokes create a painting I found hand embroidery is a technique which allows me to create so much diversity in a design.

Hand embroidery is a reflective, slow technique with so much tradition which creates beautiful textures and detail. I knew from this point I wanted to focus on combining the conceptual art with the soft and exquisite hand embroidery technique.

My Craftivist work......

I was lucky enough to be involved in the Craftivist collective project in my second year at Falmouth. My work was selected and published as a online blog. The project was about raising awareness of dementia which is a cause close to my heart. This project allowed me to combine my love of stitching with my passion for helping people deal with difficult social issues and recognising those early signs of dementia and seeking the right help and support.

Mindful Stitching Project......

I was very fortunate to get a work placement with Poppy Treffry the Cornish textile designer. I learnt so much while with her from methods of production from the exquisite design to the end product. I also gained a good knowledge of how the products were packaged before they were sold in the St Ives shop and Padstow shop in Cornwall. It was a privilege to watch unique bespoke products being made by hand by several talented stitchers from poppy's beautiful unique designs.
